Bio

With vast musical skills encompassing performing as a multi-instrumentalist, composing, editing and mixing, Iain is a one-man musical machine with the training and credentials to back up his talent.

Iain’s musical career began at a very young age. He began studying classical violin at the age of four, and performed in both orchestras and in the pit of various musical theatre, ballet and opera productions, took home many an honour from fiddle competitions, and toured Ontario and the northern United States as a snare drummer in Scottish pipe bands. His vast experience with Celtic music makes him one of the few Canadian composers able to authentically recreate the genre for film, television, ads, games and other media.

He attended the University of Western Ontario's Don Wright Faculty of Music to continue his study of violin and specialize in both traditional and electro-acoustic composition. While at Western, his love for the guitar also grew, leading him to perform with numerous bands and ensembles. After attaining a Bachelor of Musical Arts degree, he spent a year at Toronto's Harris Institute where he completed his Producing/Engineering Diploma with Honours, taking courses in live sound mixing, audio post production, electronics, production, and all aspects of Logic and Pro Tools.

Iain has composed the music for a number of short films, including Basted by award-winning writer/director/producer Mark Datuin. He has lent his talents to numerous other features, web series, musicals, music libraries and advertisements and also wrote and performed the string arrangements for Canadian Idol finalist Chad Doucette’s 2010 debut album, Hit It!.

Iain's diverse talent and background has given him, above all else, a true understanding of music and its amplified power when put against picture. For more information and demos tailored specifically to your project, email iain@iaingardner.ca.
